Plan Your Blue Grotto Visit
Reaching the cave requires a boat transfer or a land trip to Anacapri. Careful preparation saves time and hassle.
Getting there
Compare boat and bus routes to the cave.
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boat: Take a shared group tour boat or dedicated transfer from Marina Grande (e.g., Motoscafisti or Laser Capri) to the grotto entrance, then transfer to a small rowboat. | 15-20 minutes transit, plus queuing time outside the cave | €24-€25 for the transfer (plus €18 cave entry) | The most popular and scenic option; be prepared for long queues on the water which can trigger seasickness. |
| Bus: Take a public bus from the town of Anacapri directly to the 'Grotta Azzurra' terminal stop. | 15 minutes from Anacapri | Approx €2.50 | Once off the bus, you wait in line on the stairs by the cliff to board a rowboat; a better option if you suffer from seasickness. |
| Walk: Walk downhill from the center of Anacapri via Via Grotta Azzurra to the cliffside stairs. | 40-50 minutes | Free | A scenic but steep walk down; you will still need to queue and pay the €18 entry to board a rowboat at the bottom. |
| Tour: Book a private traditional wooden boat (gozzo) or speedboat tour around the island with a stop at the cave. | 2-4 hours total | €160+ for private boat rental | Provides a customized schedule, but you still must transfer to the official rowboats at the cave entrance. |

Practical Tips
You absolutely need cash. The floating ticket booth only accepts euros for the €18-€19 entry. Have exact change to speed up the process.
If you suffer from seasickness, take medication before arriving. The water outside the cave is choppy, and boat fumes can make the long wait unpleasant. See Port to Cave for alternative routes.
