  • Best time

The cave is most reliable between April and October. Arrive before 9:00 AM to minimize queues.

  • Getting there

Take a boat transfer from Marina Grande or a public bus to Anacapri. Both routes end at the rowboat queue.

  • Budget

The mandatory entry fee is €18 to €19 per person. You must pay this in cash at the cave entrance.

About the Blue Grotto

The cave is approximately 60 meters long and 25 meters wide. Sunlight passes through an underwater cavity, illuminating the water from below. This creates the famous glowing blue effect. Visit Inside the Cave to learn what it looks like inside.

Around 27 AD, Roman Emperor Tiberius used the cave as a private swimming pool. Original Roman statues of sea gods were found on the sandy bottom. You can see these statues at the Casa Rossa museum in Anacapri. Check Anacapri Sights for more details.

Swimming inside the cave is strictly prohibited today. You will face fines ranging from €1,000 to €3,000 if you break this rule. Read Swimming Rules for the full regulations.

Had a wonderful day and Luce was a great host/guide, friendly and funny. He gave ys some great tips to avoid long lines and sone great places to see. The chairlift to the mountain too was spectacular for beautiful views and then the boat trip in to the Blue Grotto was such a fitting finale before a swim/lovely glass of wine and the cruise back

Unbelievable day on the island of Capri. Perfect weather and the BEST Guide Michele. His 20 years of experience got us in and around the island and we were able to experience everything from Ana Capri to the Blue Grotto to a full around the island boat tour along with time for shopping and a lunch! It was incredible.

Vincenzo was a great guide! He gave us tips on what to do in our free time and helped us navigate the ferry even though it wasn’t apart of the tour. Too bad the blue grotto was closed!

The visit to the Blue Grotto was a great start to the day, then we visited Anacapri, and finally the Faraglioni by boat in the afternoon. Paola, our guide seemed to know everyone on the island, and she made the tour fun and interesting.
